• Chief Health Informatics Executive

Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking executive to serve as its Chief Health Informatics Executive (CHIE). This is an outstanding opportunity to leverage technology to achieve the highest outcomes in patient safety, quality of care, clinician engagement, and operational performance.

Southern Illinois Healthcare is an independent, not-for-profit health system with over 4,000 employees and approximately $720 million in net patient revenue. The success and viability of SIH is critical to the health, wellness and economic development of the southern Illinois region. SIH has four inpatient hospitals (Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Herrin Hospital, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital and Harrisburg Medical Center). In addition to the hospitals, SIH has urgent care and dedicated centers of excellence offering services in neurology, cancer, heart, sleep and rehabilitation. SIH Medical Group employs over 670 employed and affiliated physicians and advanced practice providers.

The Chief Health Informatics Executive will play a central role in strengthening clinician engagement, improving the use of clinical tools, and driving innovation across the health system. As the primary bridge between IT and the clinical community, the CHIE will lead the development of an enterprise-wide informatics strategy that enhances access, usability, and value of technology across the care continuum. This includes championing the optimization of the Epic platform with a focus on improving the organization’s Gold Star status and driving the thoughtful adoption of tools that support clinical workflows.

A major priority of this role is advancing clinician wellness by identifying and implementing technologies that reduce cognitive burden and support meaningful work—such as the continued rollout of ambient listening tools and exploration of emerging AI and digital solutions. The CHIE will work closely with physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers to promote adoption, enhance digital literacy, and ensure clinical voices are central in the design and deployment of health IT solutions.

The ideal candidate will be a transformative leader with deep experience supporting interdisciplinary care teams. While clinical practice experience is preferred, it is not required. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, collaborator, and change agent—committed to building trust, fostering engagement, and advancing a culture of innovation and patient-centered care. The CHIE will be instrumental in shaping a modern, integrated health

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $321,000-$514,000 annually, commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the industry.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Please direct a resume expressing interest in the role to the WittKieffer team via WK Candidate Portal here.
