• HIMSS-AMDIS Physician Executive Leader of the Year

    Natalie Pageler, M.D., M.ED., has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 HIMSS-AMDIS Physician Executive Leader of the Year Award.

    This award recognizes a physician leader who demonstrates significant leadership in optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information and technology. It is given for success and achievement as a physician leader championing information and technology to optimal strategic impact.

    Dr. Natalie Pageler is a board-certified pediatric intensivist and board-certified clinical informaticist. She is Chief Medical Information Officer of Stanford Children’s Health, Associate Program Director for the Stanford Clinical Informatics Fellowship and an Associate Professor of Pediatric Critical Care at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Through her clinical and administrative positions, she has implemented programs to enhance provider efficiency and practice experience and has developed innovative computerized clinical decision support tools to provide point-of-care education to clinicians and enhance quality of care, efficiency and patient safety. In addition to her role as CMIO and her bedside teaching, she has been active in shaping the curriculum for the emerging specialty of clinical informatics.

    “I am truly honored to receive this award from such an extraordinary group of physicians who are dedicated to improving the lives of people everywhere,” Dr. Pageler said. “I am so grateful to the entire informatics community for the constant mentorship, sharing of ideas and experiences, and moral support as we embark on this critical work together.”

    Dr. Pageler’s work has supported the balancing of information transparency with adolescent confidentially to ensure patient and family safety. Her insights and advocacy have been crucial nationally as organizations have responded to the 21st Century CURES Anti-Information Blocking legislation. She has an innate understanding of how technology can impact this vulnerable population, to its benefit, but also to its detriment if not thoughtfully applied.

    Dr. Pageler will be honored at the HIMSS21 Awards Gala on Aug. 11. AMDIS and HIMSS invites all physician informaticists and colleagues to discuss the hot topics of the day at HIMSS21.
